Bobby is a 1973 Indian Bollywood musical romance film, directed by Raj Kapoor and written by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas. It was the first leading role for Raj Kapoor's son, Rishi Kapoor, and the film debut for Dimple Kapadia. The film became a blockbuster and the top-grossing Indian hit of 1973. The film became a trend-setter. It was wildly popular and widely imitated. It introduced to Bollywood the genre of teenage romance with a rich-vs-poor clash as a backdrop. Numerous films in the following years and decades were inspired by this plot. Indiatimes Movies ranks Bobby amongst the 'Top 25 Must See Bollywood Films'. An interesting fact about the auditions of this movie was that when Raj Kapoor launched his second son Rishi Kapoor in this film, he wanted a new heroine to complement the young love story. Dimple Kapadia and Neetu Singh were auditioned for the role of Bobby Braganza, but Dimple was finally selected; meanwhile, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh did many films together later on and became one of cinema's best screen couples and later crowned their relationship with marriage. Bobby's record-breaking hit songs were mainly sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Shailendar Singh. Hum Tum Ek Kamre Mein Band Ho, Main Shayar Toh Nahi, Jhoot Bole Kauwa Kate and Na Maangu Sona Chandi were a great success. We still know them as some of the sweetest evergreen retro melodies.
